The origins of the Zion Strong ministry commended nearly a decade ago in August 2015. During the 96th Holy Convocation of the historic Wisconsin First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, the late Bishop Sedgwick Daniels, PhD, Jurisdictional Prelate of Wisconsin First, announced the establishment of Old Mount Zion New Jerusalem, affectionately known as OMZ. OMZ was designed as an East Side young adult campus for Holy Redeemer Institutional Church of God in Christ, the jurisdiction headquarters and "mother" church of historic Wisconsin First. Elders Troy Braxton, John W. Daniels III and Brian McKee were appointed to the position of co-servant leaders under the leadership of Bishop Daniels. In 2016, at Wisconsin First's 97th Holy Convocation, in concordance with the voice of Wisconsin First's council of pastors and elders, the congregation of OMZ and his co-servant leaders, John W. Daniels III was officially installed as the Pastor of Old Mount Zion New Jerusalem. Established off of biblical principles to win souls and to equip the believer to be efficient and effective in their walk with Christ, OMZ achieved this through a hybrid powerful worship and a practical word .

At the beginning of the pandemic, OMZ transitioned to become a virtual ministry. During this, we embraced the #ZionStrong identity and mantra gradually developed by our congregation. Beginning in 2022, Pastor John led the shift to a hybrid ministry, enjoying in-person worship on select Sundays. Following his appointment to the office of Religious and Corporate Affairs Pastor and head of Virtual Ministries at our sister church Holy Redeemer Institutional Church, Pastor John uniquely designed Zion Strong to prosper as a full-time virtual ministry in partnership with Holy Redeemer Institutional Church as a home for in-person worship service.
We are a family oriented congregation, we ensure that the love of Christ is the focus for everything we do. One of our focuses is being benevolent in a number of ways , Our initiatives are diverse in serving needs at various seasons in the lives of members. For years we had a very strong focus on assisting our youth to pursue educational activities such as 529 accounts, Post Secondary Education, youth training and a host of other programs. Our number one priority is to ensure that God is glorified in all that we do.
